IN an exclusive interview with Fox Sports, Robin van Persie talks about Tim Cahill’s World Cup stunner and admits the Dutch got lucky against the Socceroos in Brazil.
Speaking with European correspondent Daniel Garb, the Netherlands hitman says it’s hard to compare Cahill’s famous volley with his own header against Spain, but says the Aussie’s left-foot rocket was a “beautiful goal”.
“They were both great goals,” he added.
PART 1: RVP SAYS 5-3 INQUEST WAS A LONG ONE
The 31-year-old also admits the Netherlands were lucky to pick up a win over Ange Postecoglou’s side in their Group B clash in Porto Alegre.
“We had to come back into the game twice. They (Australia) did really well,” he said.
“The surprised us, they kept the ball, and in the end we got a bit lucky to win the game 3-2.”
Van Persie also recalled fond memories from Manchester United’s pre-season tour of Australia in 2013.
