La vida en Hawai ... ¿Qué se siente estar de estilo hawaiano?...

Bodyboarding and swimming at Honolua Beach for residents and visitors of Maui, Hawaii.

No muchos. No yo!
Cosas limitadas a Do.
Laid Back Estilo de vida.

Day of the Dead comes alive in colorful Mexican tale 'Book of Life'

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Growing up in the Mexican border town of Tijuana, animator Jorge Gutierrez waited to see his people appear in Hollywood's animated fare.
"I never saw myself or my family or my friends up on the screen in animation," Gutierrez said. "I kept waiting for the Latina princess to show up, and she never did."
Gutierrez embarked on a 14-year journey to make "The Book of Life," out in U.S. theaters on Friday, drawing on Mexican art and wooden puppets to animate a colorful love story rooted in the Mexican Day of the Dead festivities.
"The Book of Life," a co-production of Reel FX Creative Studios and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc's Twentieth Century Fox studios, follows childhood friends Manolo (Diego Luna), Joaquin (Channing Tatum) and Maria (Zoe Saldana).
The kids become the subjects of a playful bet between the vivacious La Muerte and the conniving Xibalba, rulers of the underworld realms, who each pick which boy will win Maria's heart.
La Muerte reigns over the Land of the Remembered, a never-ending fiesta town painted in a burst of luminous colors, and Xibalba oversees the bleak Land of the Forgotten, a world where souls turn to dust as they are forgotten by the living.
As the three children grow up, Manolo follows his family tradition of bull fighting but refuses to kill a bull or give up music, while Joaquin becomes an indestructible warrior with help from Xibalba. Then there is Maria, the strong-willed beauty who Gutierrez says is "no damsel in distress."
"There are more Marias out there than ever before," said Saldana. "Art is beginning to imitate life and have a much more accurate depiction of real life characters more frequently. Maria to me is my sisters, my friends, my colleagues, my neighbors, women that I read about, women that I admire."
Death has often been a used as a catalyst for a hero's origins in animated films for children, from "Bambi" to "The Lion King" and "Finding Nemo."
But it is rarely placed in the spotlight, and Gutierrez said he was "extra careful" in portraying the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), when Mexican families gather at the graves of their families and celebrate their lives.
"Mexicans have a very different relationship with the concept of death than everywhere else in the world," he said. "In the history of (animation), death is something that's always been there but no one wants to acknowledge it."
At its heart, "Book of Life" captures Mexican culture and traditions through Gutierrez's eyes, a "love letter" to the world he grew up in.
"It's not a folkloric postcard, it's truly a modern Mexico that at the same time loves its roots," said the film's producer, Guillermo Del Toro. "I think people are going to be immersed into it through the music, the visuals, and extremely important, the most universal thing of all, emotions."

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Neil Patrick Harris, popular with younger TV viewers as the star of the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," has been tapped to host next year's Academy Awards ceremony, the organizers of Hollywood's biggest night said on Wednesday.

Harris, 41, best known as Barney Stinson on the long-running CBS series, has also hosted TV's Emmy Awards. He has won three Emmys for hosting theater's Tony Awards.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is eager to draw a greater number of younger viewers to the TV broadcast of the 87th Oscars. The ceremony will be shown live to more than 200 countries from Los Angeles on Feb. 22 on the ABC television network, owned by Walt Disney Co.

Talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres emceed the ceremony this year, and drew the highest Oscars telecast audience in 14 years with 43.7 million tuning in. DeGeneres was also successful drawing a strong rating among the 18-49 demographic coveted most by advertisers.

DeGeneres, who is openly gay like Harris, poked fun at the powerful people in the room, her own sexuality, handed out pizza and took a star-studded selfie that set Twitter's record for most retweets and briefly crashed the microblogging service.

Harris, who won a best actor Tony Award this year in Broadway musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," most recently co-starred in dark thriller and early Oscar contender "Gone Girl."

"I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show," Harris said in a statement. "To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."

Harris helped break the announcement on Twitter with a video post showing him cheekily running down a "bucket list" of accomplishments before circling "Host the Oscars."

Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will run the live ceremony for the third consecutive time in 2015. The Broadway producers are known for delivering lively musical and dance numbers, which Harris has also done in his other hosting gigs.

"To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage," Zadan and Meron said in a statement.

In recent years, the Oscars organizers have sought to draw a younger audience to the prestigious black tie gala show, to mixed results.

In 2011, young, attractive actors Anne Hathaway and James Franco were panned for their co-hosting efforts and lack of chemistry, drawing one of the least-watched Oscars in a decade, while "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane in 2013 delivered a bigger audience but was criticized for his raunchy humor.

The Oscars have also faced pressure from January's Golden Globe Awards, which has seen a viewership surge after it turned hosting duties over to popular comics Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Novelist Dubus now looks homeward after gritty memoir

NEWBURY Mass. (Reuters) - Andre Dubus III put his faded hometown of Haverhill, Massachusetts, on the map of modern literature with his gritty memoir, “Townie.”

But Dubus' native New England did not find a setting in his fiction until he published a collection of novellas, “Dirty Love,” which depicts small-city and shore-town residents in messy quests for human relationships.

Dubus’ novels include “House of Sand and Fog,” which was made into an Oscar-nominated movie. He is also the son of writer Andre Dubus II, whose troubled family life was a major element of "Townie."

He spoke to Reuters in a house he built by hand about the role of landscape in his writing, his aversion to the wired life, and the characters that define his work.

Q: How has setting stories closer to home influenced your work?

A: It felt good to try to capture people from this region. I grew up along the Merrimack River in these abandoned mill towns. It was only when writing “Townie” that I wrote directly about this place for the first time, and that kind of freed me up to fictionalize it.

A place has rhythms, a flow like a river. There is a depth of authority a writer has when writing about a place they know well. The same is true when your write about the kinds of people that you know well. But when it comes to place, I think you can write your way to the bottom of your knowledge. Exploring never ends when it comes to character.

I think about my father's work. (John) Updike called him “the bard of Merrimack Valley,” and I remember thinking, no, he's not. He sets his stories here, but he doesn't write about people here. My old man’s voice was (his native) Louisiana.

Q: Are any real people from “Townie” depicted fictionally in “Dirty Love”?

A: No. In many ways 'Dirty Love' is a departure in tone. All of my fiction before 'Dirty Love' has some physical violence in it. Then I write directly about the physical violence in my youth (in “Townie”), and the first book I write afterwards has no physical violence in it.

Q: How has the Internet affected the writer's role?

A: I have such mixed feelings. I think it’s improved the quality of my writing to be able to deepen it so quickly with research.

I really like the populist nature of the Internet. But I find it really depressing how many of us stare at screens in our hands. It’s like you walk into a room and everybody’s stoned.

Q: You don’t have a smart phone?

A: I'm never going to have one. The only computer I have is in my basement where I write. I think we need to reclaim our solitude and the voices in our heads.

Q: A protagonist, Robert, in "Dirty Love" vividly recalled his farm upbringing. Does that come from your experience?

A: I didn't know jack about dairy farms and I don’t even drink milk. I had to do research.

I went into Robert and he delivered that piece of news. I believe that these characters are real and they have one history. What you’re penetrating is deeply mysterious, which is the writer’s imagination.

Q: How do you avoid media character stereotypes.

A: I do protect myself from a lot of this. I’m really kind of tuned out. I want to be disconnected from the noise so I can be connected to something deeper.

But as a novelist who writes fiction set in contemporary America, I can’t put my head in the ground. (In) "Dirty Love," I had to ask my daughter, “Show me Facebook.” And then I asked her to show me how to text.

Q: In “Dirty Love’s” opening piece, where did that line come from, “his heart kicking like a hanged man's feet"?

A: I did not want to have a shopworn phrase. I tried to just be deeply him, looking at the video of his wife cheating on him, and then the image came to me from his emotional moment.

Q: The characters in “Dirty Love” come to terms with the messiness of their relationships. Is that a universal human condition?

A: I don’t care for stories that have neat endings. I like ‘em to end more musically, where whatever note has been played in that symphony has an echo in the end.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Joan Rivers, who passed away last month at the age of 81, died of a complication during a medical procedure, the New York Chief Medical Examiner's Office said on Thursday.

Rivers was having an examination of the back of the throat and vocal cords at a New York clinic when she stopped breathing and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was put on life support.

"The manner of death is therapeutic complication," the medical examiner said in a statement, "the death resulted from a predictable complication of medical therapy."

It listed the cause of death as anoxic encephalopathy, a condition caused when brain tissue is deprived of oxygen and there is brain damage.

Rivers, the brash, pioneering comedian who paved the way for women in stand-up comedy, died in hospital on Sept. 4, a week after the outpatient procedure.

"We continue to be saddened by our tragic loss and grateful for the enormous outpouring of love and support from around the world," the comedian's daughter, Melissa Rivers, said in a statement after the release of the autopsy report.

She had no further comment to make at this time.

Following her death, the State Health Department launched an investigation into Yorkville Endoscopy where Rivers was treated. It reviewed records and documents and questioned doctors at the clinic which opened in 2013.

The clinic denied media reports that it had administered a general anesthesia or conducted a vocal cord biopsy on Rivers. Last month the clinic said the doctor who performed the procedure was not currently working there or serving as its medical director.

The clinic and its spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Brooklyn-born comedian, who once described herself as "the plastic surgery poster girl" and often joked about her numerous cosmetic enhancements, was known for the catchphrase, "Can we talk?"

Her career as a stand-up comedian, author, talk show host and reality TV star spanned five decades. She starred with her daughter in the reality TV show "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?", with Rivers living with her grown child.

Most recently, Rivers was the host of cable television channel E!'s "Fashion Police," commenting on the unfortunate red carpet choices of Hollywood celebrities.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Friends" may have wrapped up ten years ago, but Ross, Chandler, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey will appear on Netflix beginning in January, Warner Bros. TV and the online Internet-streaming service said on Wednesday.

All 236 episodes of the popular NBC 10-season series, one of the most-watched U.S. shows of all time, will be available for streaming in the United States and Canada on the subscription service beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

The show launched the careers of actors Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow, and made them household names.

Netflix announced the deal with a music video of the show's hit theme song "I'll Be There for You" performed by pop duo the Rembrandts at the show's local coffee hangout, Central Perk. The cafe was installed as a pop-up in New York this month to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the "Friends" premiere.

"Friends," which aired its final episode on May 6, 2004, has previously only been available in broadcast and cable television syndication in the United States.

The agreement is the latest step taken by Netflix to attract subscribers in the premium-TV market as its main competitor, Time Warner's HBO, also announced Wednesday that it would launch its own stand-alone streaming service.

Netflix, like HBO, began as a subscription movie service, but has also branched out into high-production TV series, talk shows and original movies.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has been named this year's "sexiest woman alive" by Esquire, the men's lifestyle magazine said on Monday.
The 40-year-old follows last year's winner, American actress Scarlett Johansson, to earn the honor chosen by Esquire editors.
Cruz, whose last film was director Ridley Scott's 2013 thriller "The Counselor," alongside husband Javier Bardem, will star in the upcoming Spanish-language drama "Ma Ma," and is currently in production on the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy "Grimsby."
The Madrid-born actress, who won a supporting actress Oscar for her performance as an emotionally volatile artist in Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," told the magazine that she is no longer as attracted to dramatic roles as before.
"I had an attraction to drama," Cruz said in the magazine's upcoming issue. "Most of us have that, especially if you are an artist - you feel like you are tempted to explore the darkness. I could not be less interested now."
Cruz and Bardem, 45, have two young children together.
She rose to international prominence in 2001 with roles in Hollywood films "Vanilla Sky," and "Blow." She also frequently collaborates with acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar, who has called Cruz a muse while the actress told Esquire that the "Talk to Her" director is her "biggest source of inspiration."
American actress Mila Kunis, Barbados-born pop star Rihanna and South African actress Charlize Theron have all recently been given the distinction by Esquire.

The Bachelor Blake is a love rat

PICTURE this: a hunky man, on bended knee asking for your hand in marriage with a $58,000 diamond ring at sunset on the South African safari plains.
Romantic right? Every girl’s dream? Perhaps, if you’re into Mills and Boon cliches.
But does it still make your heart go flutter when you know the hunk in question spent the night before his grand proposal in the arms of another woman, declaring his love for her?

And what if said heart-throb had the week before that been seen with a buxom brunette mounting him in a spa.
In real life we would be baying for Blake Garvey’s blood, declaring him a love rat.
Yet, for some reason, when a bloke wines and dines a bevy of beauties before popping the question on a TV show all the standard rules of behaviour go out the window.
Suddenly people are swooning at the romance of it all and gleefully cheering on The Bachelor and his lucky chosen bride.

Not me. I, for one, think it was ludicrous for a pair of people who have dated only a handful of times with a production crew filming their every intimate moment to have even thought about getting married.
Whose family or friends could genuinely be happy for a couple who get engaged under such circumstances? Surely, people outside the vacuum of a reality TV series would have had the sense to tell these two that getting married was a very bad idea.
I know I would be sceptical whether “true love” could be found on TV after a few dawn hot air balloon rides and yacht trips together.

But, now that the cameras have stopped rolling and Channel 10 have stopped picking up the tab and planning ridiculously over-the-top dates, it’s become apparent that Sam and Blake didn’t have much in common besides the fact they over-shared their emotions on TV.
Colour me surprised.
The writing was on the wall before the final episode aired.

On Thursday, Ten declared that there would be no interviews with the supposedly engaged couple or runner up — or as I like to call her, the lucky escapee- Lisa Hyde.
Or any of the many other women involved in the show for that matter.
This was highly unusual for a show like this and sent the rumour mill into overdrive with, amongst other things, pregnancy speculation and cheating allegations.
Something was up because reality contestants are rarely so media shy.
Last year’s couple, Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich, were -and still are — front and centre at
every media opportunity telling anyone listening how much in love they are.

At least they had the good sense to not get engaged after meeting in the show.
They’re still together but no one is headed down the aisle any time soon.
The whole Frost-Garvey unengagement just highlights how unromantic The Bachelor really is.
Strip away the champagne, the ball gowns, the single-stem red roses and the Barbara Cartland-esque dates and you have a handsome but (in my opinion) boring man leading on a bunch of desperate women for our entertainment.
And, if last year’s runner-up, Rochelle Emanuel-Smith, is to be believed the situations on The Bachelor may be manufactured but feelings of these contestants are very real.

She was left heartbroken and humiliated after being led to believe she and Robards had a real connection.
Instead she was dumped then expected to film interviews about the experience.
Now what, may I ask, is romantic about that?

BLAKE blubbered, prophetic zebras starred and 24’s Jack Bauer made a shock appearance.
All that and more in our recap of the much-anticipated, fiercely promoted Bachelor finale. Read on ...
Last night’s recap
The Bachelor moment nobody expected
BLAKE’S FAMILY ARRIVES
Blake is taking Sam and Lisa into the South African wilderness, where no one will be able to hear them scream.
“This is what I’m here for. It’s about finding that woman who is perfect for me,” he says. Yes Blake, it’s all about you. All those hearts you’ve crushed are completely tangential.
The Bachelor hasn’t seen his mum, Andrea, or his aunt, Dee, in months, but they’ve flown over to Africa for the finale. Grandma, meanwhile, has been left at home. Why couldn’t they just do this in Australia? I’m pretty sure the South African version of the show doesn’t film its final episode in Perth.
As Andrea and Dee meet Blake, they admit they’ve been arguing over who will get to hug him first — much like every other female who has appeared in the series.
“My mum is my rock, but she can be a bit of a softie,” Blake says. “Her big sister Dee however, she’s a straight shooter. She’s the one that will have the tough questions.”
Got it. Blake’s aunty is essentially Jack Bauer. These interrogations should be a real hoot.
Dee lines up one of the bachelorettes. Dee lines up one of the bachelorettes. Source: Supplied
Blake reckons Sam and Lisa are closer to each other than any of their fellow bachelorettes, which means he’s dating a pair of best friends. Guys get a lot of street cred for that sort of accomplishment in high school, but for a big boy like Blake, it’s pretty awkward.
“Sam, she’s so genuine. She’s got such a big heart, and she can’t hide who she is,” he says.
“Lisa, she’s probably one of the smallest girls in the house, but you’d probably think she’s one of the biggest, because of her personality.”
Blake’s lovely absentee granny has sent him a video message, advising him to pick his partner based on their honesty. You know, instead of their boobs. Gran cries. Blake cries. It’s all very miserable.
LISA MEETS THE FAMILY
“Hiiiiiiiiii!” Lisa yells as she approaches Andrea and Dee, who seem to be pleasantly bemused by her performance.
Of course, no one loves a lame joke more than Lisa (present company excluded), so she begins by claiming she can’t tell Blake and his mum apart. Apparently their eyes are similar. I’m beginning to question whether Lisa has eyes at all.
“She’s got a sense of humour, this one,” Andrea remarks dryly, before pulling Lisa aside for a one-on-one chat.
“Judging you? Noooo, I’m not judging you.” “Judging you? Noooo, I’m not judging you.” Source: Channel 10
“I really like your son. When I say really like, I’ve completely fallen for him,” Lisa gushes.
“But do you love him?” Andrea asks, mockingly adopting a deep and foreboding voice. It’s nice to see she’s taking Blake’s future so seriously.
“I do love your son. It’s something that means so much to me, and ... I haven’t told him that I’m in love with him,” Lisa replies.
Andrea tells her to do it, because Blake’s “mind-reading ability” sucks and he won’t figure it out on his own. Ain’t that the truth.
“You seem pretty nice, want to marry me instead?” “You seem pretty nice, want to marry me instead?” Source: Channel 10
Dee hears Lisa and Andrea sharing a laugh, and feels some “tough questions” need to be asked, so she interrupts. It’s like we’ve gone all the way back to that cocktail party in the first episode.
I fully expect Dee to handcuff Lisa and carry her to someone’s dark basement for a spot of casual torture, but the “tough” questions turn out to be extremely reasonable. You know, the sort of things any sane person would ask before leaping into a long-term relationship.
For instance, Lisa and Blake live in different cities — how’s that going to work? They’ve never had an argument before — so how do we know they won’t try to murder each other the moment someone drops a salt shaker?
If Lisa has coherent answers, or even interesting answers for that matter, we don’t hear them.
“Hahaha! Good one, ma. Can I leave now?” “Hahaha! Good one, ma. Can I leave now?” Source: Channel 10
SAM MEETS THE FAMILY
“Don’t be too nervous,” Blake tells Sam before she faces the interrogation squad. So you can guess what happens next.
“When I’m nervous, I can’t hide it. I fumble around, I can’t get my sentences out, I’m just a bit of a mess,” Sam tells the camera.
“I was so nervous and awkward. I was just saying some really weird stuff.”
Actually, she isn’t saying much of anything. The group conversation doesn’t work, because Sam responds to every question with a long, awkward silence, so once again, Andrea decides to go solo.
“Pleeeeaaaase make him love me!!!” “Pleeeeaaaase make him love me!!!” Source: Channel 10
“I was quite sceptical at first, before I met Blake. I was like, ‘What if he’s a douchebag?’”
Sam says. Blake’s mum does not laugh at this. I imagine the Queen sports a similar expression on her face whenever she notices a clumsily-folded handkerchief. But Sam persists, bless her heart.
“I told him that I loved him the other day. I was a nervous wreck before I said it.” Why is she using the past tense? She’s still a nervous wreck now.
Sam is also asked about the fact that she and Blake live in different states. Who would she expect to relocate?
“I dunno, like, we just said we’re gonna have to have that conversation. And we’ll figure it out,” she says. Whoa. Impressive answer.
Dee — who has, by now, started openly referring to herself as the “bad cop” — strolls over menacingly ... and asks about babies. Sam smacks that softball question out of the park.
Ultimately, the whole exercise turns out to be a colossal waste of time. Blake’s mum and aunt tell him they like both girls equally.
“ ... I was hoping for just a little bit more clarity,” Blake says. Granted, that complaint is a bit rich, coming from the king of agonising, indecisive pauses.
“What do you mean, the wine’s poisoned?” “What do you mean, the wine’s poisoned?” Source: Channel 10
LISA’S DATE
Blake takes Lisa for a hot-air balloon ride above the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, which is full of exotic creatures like elephants, zebras and Bigfoot. I mean, we don’t see Bigfoot up close, but there was a suspicious black smudge on my TV screen at one point, and I can’t think of any other plausible explanation.
Anyway, back to the hot air balloon, which is presumably powered by all the hot air that comes out of Blake’s mouth. Lisa peers over the edge of the basket with a pair of binoculars.
“Oh wow,” she says, with all the enthusiasm of an exhausted mother critiquing her child’s gazillionth stick-figure drawing.
“You’re so full of hot air.” “You’re so full of hot air.” Source: Channel 10
Lisa quickly loses interest in the scenery. She’s more interested in praising Blake, which is something that really differentiates her from his other followers. I mean, girlfriends.
“It’s hard to meet someone like you. I think that you don’t give yourself as much credit as you should,” Lisa says, because obviously the one thing this guy needs is to have his ego stroked even more.
When the balloon lands, they enjoy a picnic deep in the wilderness. Hopefully there are no hungry lions prowling nearby.
“Every time that I’ve seen you I’ve just got butterflies. And I feel so happy to be around you and I love how you make me feel,” she says. “It’s not the extravagant dates, it’s you.”
Of course, the extravagant dates help. They just stepped out of a freaking hot air balloon. Regardless, Lisa is finally ready to use the “L” word.
“It’s been a long time coming that I’ve wanted to tell you this, and I’ve told you that I’m falling for you, but I’m absolutely 100 per cent, like, I’m in love with you,” she says.
They share a celebratory pash, as Blake mumbles something completely unintelligible. He’ll need to enunciate better than that if he’s to pursue a post-Bachelor career in radio, as so many former reality TV stars do.
“Hey look honey, a hungry lion! Shall we go say hi?” “Hey look honey, a hungry lion! Shall we go say hi?” Source: Channel 10
SAM’S DATE
Blake is taking Sam on safari, which means for the second date in a row, she is forced to wake up before the sun rises. A word of advice, Sam: If you like to sleep in on weekends, run. Run like the fierce South African wind.
“I have something incredible planned for today,” Blake says. It’s very similar to his date with Lisa, except they’re travelling in a jeep instead of a hot-air balloon.
They spot three zebras, two of whom are “hugging”, while a third is walking around by itself. That seems rather prescient.
“Go away, loser. The Zebra Bachelor finale is already over.” “Go away, loser. The Zebra Bachelor finale is already over.” Source: Channel 10
Eventually, Sam and Blake stop to eat, but he’s put a bunch of useless, inedible flowers in their picnic basket. Later, as they watch some Africans dance — an idea he definitely didn’t recycle from that last date with Louise — Sam tries one final, desperate attempt at flattery.
“You are so incredible. I’ve said it a thousand times before, but I’m just so thankful. You’ve made me grow as a person and I am so appreciative,” she tells Blake, before moving over to sit on his lap.
“I think one of the most difficult things about this is the crazy emotions,” she says, proceeding to prove her own point by crying. “I don’t want to share you anymore, and I just want you all to myself.”
Oh my god, I made a decision finally. “ ... to get to the other side! HA! How hilarious!” Source: Channel 10
DECISION 2014
Before Blake makes his final decision, he has to strip one last time. You do know he used to be a stripper, right?
Having removed his indecently tight shirt, the Bachelor sits with his feet in a pool and the sun baking his pecs, contemplating ... something. World peace, perhaps.
“It tears me up inside that I’m going to have to say goodbye to one amazing woman, and the only reason I can give her is that I have a stronger love for someone else,” he says. Oh. It was romance then. Talk about a one track mind.
“Hey ladies. Check out my blurry TV screenshot biceps.” “Hey ladies. Check out my blurry TV screenshot biceps.” Source: Channel 10 Some phallic South African columns bow before Blake’s majesty. Some phallic South African columns bow before Blake’s majesty. Source: Channel 10
The SHOCKING proposal we’ve heard so much about is going to happen in the middle of a barren plain, which must represent the equally barren future lying ahead of whichever poor soul is denied the chance to spend the rest of her life with this god among men.
Blake is flanked by two rather ornate, slightly bent pillars. See? Even the local landmarks are bowing before his majesty.
Lisa is the first bachelorette to arrive. Blake gives her an encouraging smile, then breaks her heart into tiny pieces on national television.
“I came here looking for a big, big love. And Lisa, I have so much love for you. So much love. But I’m in love with someone else,” he says.
She can only whisper back: “I wish you all the best. It’s been so much fun. It’s OK. It’s fine.”
Blake cries straight away. Lisa doesn’t. She’s clearly made of tougher stuff.
“I’m the real victim here, guys.” “I’m the real victim here, guys.” Source: Channel 10
His conversation with Sam is much less awkward, for obvious reasons, but it isn’t nearly as SHOCKING as we were led to believe.
“I came into this experience looking for someone special,” Blake says.
“I’ve felt a lot of love on this journey, but I’ve only been in love with one person. And Sam, that person is you. I love you Sam.
“I only have one final question for you. Samantha Frost, will you marry me?”
“100 per cent,” she replies, a huge smile on her face. 100 per cent? What sort of answer is that? A simple “yes” would have sufficed. Nobody has ever said, “Yes, I’ll 80 per cent marry you”. Urgh. Can we call back Lisa? Surely there’s still time for Blake to change his mind.
“Sam ... will you put up with me for even longer?” “Sam ... will you put up with me for even longer?” Source: Channel 10
So, to summarise: Sam won, Blake also won, Lisa lost and Osher sort of hung around awkwardly in the background. We were promised an unspeakably dramatic climax, and instead we got happily ever after. How dreadfully wonderful.
UPDATE: Network Ten has confirmed that Blake and Sam have since ended their engagement. So, that was all rather pointless, wasn’t it?

WHAT do you do when you get dumped after declaring your love on national TV?
If you're The Bachelor’sSam Frost you go out partying with fellow reality show dumpees.
The Bachelor rumours are spreading faster than Blake tongue pashing his many Bachelorettes.
But one thing’s for sure, “shattered” Bachelorette Sam did what any woman should do after getting dumped.
She went out on the tiles with her girlfriends.

And these girlfriends sure can sympathise — one, Zoe had also been dumped by heartbreaker Blake earlier in the love match reality show, and the other, Big Brother’s Tully Smyth, knows all about losing love on national television and the backlash that follows.
Reports from one of Frost’s friends say the blonde beauty was given her marching orders from baritone Blake last Friday, less than a week before the show’s finale aired last night.

The insider said Sam was still coming to terms with being dumped, especially since the breakup came amid claims that Blake was “in love with another one of the contestants.”
But rather than mope around at home, Frost went out partying at Melbourne hotspot Eve nightclub in Southbank.
Frost was pictured living it up in the VIP booth at Eve well after midnight with Zoe, Tully and other girlfriends.
And the action didn’t stop there, with several of the Hawthorn footballers arriving at Eve later to keep the party going following their Grand Final win that day.
When called today, Smyth - a host at Eve nightclub on Saturday night - declined to comment, saying Sam was a friend and she wanted to respect her privacy during this time.

Meanwhile, Frost’s former boyfriend Home and Away and Neighbours star Paul O’Brien messaged his support to his ex on Facebook.
Following last night’s show O’Brien congratulated Frost, semmingly unaware of what had transpired behind the scenes following the South African proposal.
“That weird feeling when your ex girlfriend gets engaged on a reality show ... didn’t watch it but congrats Sam Frost on winning The Bachelor 2014,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, media analyst Steve Allen believes The Bachelor bust-up won’t hurt the next series, which has already begun casting.
“It might tarnish it a little but it won’t hurt the show in any meaningful way,” he said.
“Sure people might think he’s a bit of a cad but hey, that’s life.
“We’ve all dated a cad before.
“People probably won’t even remember all this by the time the next series airs.
“And if they do it might actually add to the level of interest in the show as people will want to tune in and see if any other disasters occur.
“We do tend to revel in other people’s embarrassment unfortunately.”

Earlier today Frost wrote she is as in the dark as the rest of Australia after being cruelly dumped by The Bachelor Blake Garvey.
Speaking out for the first time since rumours have been swirling about everything from runner-up Lisa being pregnant, to steamy texts with third in line Louise, Frost said she was as in the dark as the rest of us.
“People need to stop asking why we broke up.” Sam wrote on Twitter.

“Trust me, I’m just as in the dark as you all are.”
“Blake is the one calling all the shots here.”
Channel Ten issued a statement earlier today confirming rumours the two had split following last nights finale.
It read Blake Garvey had decided to end his engagement to Frost after returning to his real life and realising they weren’t suited.
A Ten spokesman said: “When Blake proposed to Sam in South Africa, he did so because he had genuinely fallen in love with her. He was excited to start a life with Sam and was very much looking forward to their future together.

“Unfortunately, not all relationships are meant to be, and feelings invariably change. Once Blake returned to his everyday life, he realised that they both wanted different things from a relationship and had different priorities.
“Blake has the greatest love and respect for Sam, but has made the difficult decision to end the relationship.”
The rumour mill went into overdrive when Ten cancelled all the post-show publicity at the eleventh hour.
More than 1.3 million tuned in to watch Garvey choose Frost over competitor Lisa Hyde and then propose with a $58,000 ring.
But as the show went to air the love affair had already ended.

Bachelor Blake’s raunchy past life

STEAMY photos have unearthed the racy past of Aussie Bachelor Blake Garvey, who used to moonlight as a topless waiter.
The racy pictures show Blake stripped to his Calvin Klein undies and a red bow tie, gyrating on women and scorching the dancefloor at a hen’s night.
The photos were snapped in his hometown of Perth in September 2012, two years before he came to the public eye as the country’s second Bachelor.
Blake says he was too modest to ever go full monty, and isn’t ashamed of anything he did as a topless waiter.
“There’s certainly nothing that would see the light of day that I would be concerned about,” he told Perth Confidential.
“I represented myself well. I was never sleazy in that endeavor.”

Blake’s history of shirtlessness is no secret. He spilt to the Herald Sun in July that he worked for a couple of years as a topless waiter.
The West Australian reckons he fell into the profession as a favour to a mate.
“A high school friend had someone pull out at the last minute for her hen’s night and needed a fill in. She begged me,” he said at the time.
“I gave it a whirl, it was pretty funny. We’ve all had adventurous pasts.”
And he told Perth Confidential there’s an important distinction between strippers and waiters.
“I mean stripping means you come out, you’re maybe wearing a costume, you’re grinding up on people, you’re doing all these things that I wouldn’t do. That’s not me.”

Now aged 31 and enjoying a more conservatively dressed career in real estate, Blake was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons today, breaking up with his chosen beauty before the show’s finale had even aired.
The towering tenor apparently dumped fiance Sam Frost last Friday, less than a week before the final episode screened last night.
In it, he popped the question to the blonde beauty surrounded by the serene South African wilderness ... and about 1.374 million home viewers.
IT’S OFFICIAL: Channel Ten confirms Bachelor breakup
SHE’S SHATTERED: Mate spills on devastated Sam
Blake mysteriously went to ground overnight, cancelling post-finale media interviews and triggering rumours of a split with Sam.
Those whispers were confirmed earlier today when Channel Ten said the pair had broken up.
But the cause of the split is still the subject of speculation. Sam took to Twitter to say she is “in the dark” over Blake’s decision to dump.

But if the Melbourne stunner is shattered by the breakup, as friends suggest, she’s not showing it.
Sam has been spotted on the town with some of the other Bachelor beauties left in Blake’s trail of heartbreak.

THE romance is officially over between The Bachelor and his chosen one, Sam.
Network Ten has just released an official statement to the media confirming the pair have called it quits.
“Network Ten can confirm that Blake and Sam have sadly ended their engagement. When Blake proposed to Sam in South Africa, he did so because he had genuinely fallen in love with her. He was excited to start a life with Sam and was very much looking forward to their future together,” the statement reads.
“Unfortunately, not all relationships are meant to be, and feelings invariably change. Once Blake returned to his everyday life, he realised that they both wanted different things from a relationship and had different priorities. Blake has the greatest love and respect for Sam, but has made the difficult decision to end the relationship.”

A heartbroken Sam has now taken to social media to shed some light on the split, revealing that it was Blake himself who pulled the pin on their short-lived engagement.
“People need to stop asking why we broke up. Trust me, I’m just as in the dark as you all are. Blake is the one calling all the shots here,” she tweeted her followers.

A source close to the blonde beauty confirmed it was Blake who did the dumping, saying Sam is devastated over the breakup.
The seemingly loved-up pair ended things last Friday, less than a week before the show’s finale, adding that Blake is “in love with another one of the contestants.”
The pair spent little time together after their engagement was filmed, with Blake living in Perth and Sam living in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Sam’s social life seems to be on track. She was snapped partying at Melbourne hotspot Eve nightclub in Southbank with fellow bachelorette Zoe and Big Brother’s Tully Smyth over the weekend.
Smyth shared the below photo on Instagram, posting: “Best night with these two beauties at @evebarsouthbank.”

The reason for the lack of interviews has now been answered: Woman’s Day has revealed that it has secured the only interview with the ill-fated pair.
“In next week’s Woman’s Day, out Monday, we have the couple’s ONLY interview detailing what REALLY went down after the final rose straight from the horse’s mouth,” their website reads.

EARLIER:
The rumour has been swirling all morning that Blake and Sam had ended their relationship after Ten mysteriously cancelled all scheduled media appearances today and in the lead-up to the finale.
MORE: Blake finally makes his choice
In what would have been a more shocking twist, speculation was rife that one of the Bachelorettes (not Sam) might be pregnant with Blake’s baby.
Runner-up Lisa Hyde, who was left devastated after Blake told her he was “in love with someone else” at the end of the final episode, took to social media this morning to clear up the pregnancy rumours. The 27-year-old fashion designer posted a photo of herself during her time on the show, along with the caption: “Wow what an incredible journey that was! Thank you everyone for all your love and support. I can confirm the rumour and I am definitely not pregnant with Blakes baby ... Lol I wish Sam and Blake all the best in the next chapter of their lives.”
Plenty of Bachelor fans were shocked with Blake’s final choice during Wednesday’s finale, convinced it was Lisa the hunk was planning to propose to.
Proving that everyone loves a scandal, the final episode soared in the ratings for Ten, raking in an impressive 1.374 million viewers and making it the most-watched program of the night. A first for the dating show.

Blake Garvey, a 31-year-old real estate agent from Perth, became engaged to 25-year-old Sam Frost at the culmination of last night’s nailbiting final episode. Presenting his chosen beauty with an engagement ring in stunning South Africa, she said, “100 per cent, yes.”
The cancelled media appearances for Garvey, Frost and Hyde sent fans — and the internet — into a spin.
This morning entertainment reporter Peter Ford weighed in on the speculation, saying: “It’s unclear why they would cancel the interviews today as the show is over and so it wouldn’t affect the ratings since the show is finished.
“That lends itself to something more serious or sinister that has taken place,” said Ford on 3AW.
Ford also spoke to 2Day FM, revealing: “What we do know is this, that they have split up and that Channel 10 have cancelled all interviews for today. They are the definite things.
“Announcing that it’s over would be very damaging to the brand ... if suddenly the word is out that it didn’t last,” Ford said, adding that there are “all sorts of legal complications” involved.

The showbiz commentator shared another possible scenario, saying: “There are also suggestions that he’s been caught texting Lisa, the runner-up.”
Kiis FM breakfast host Jackie O said on air this morning that she had a received a text from one of The Bachelor producers who admitted that Sam and Blake split a few weeks ago, hence why they cancelled the interviews.
Jackie O even shared the text from her anonymous source on Twitter this morning.

Sam hasn’t posted on her Instagram account since October 1, when she shared the below picture of herself and Lisa.

One of last year’s unlucky bachelorettes, Penny Palman, went on Sea FM Hobart Breakfast radio this morning and said she believes Blake and Sam’s relationship “only lasted weeks”.
“From what I can gather they’re not together anymore. Belle, who was on season one with me, went out with the guys on Grand Final day the other day, and Sam was there flirting up a storm with a heap of guys. She [Belle] thought maybe it was because Lisa had won,” Palman told radio hosts Paul Hogan and Esther ‘Woody’ Woodhams.
Palman, who says she knows the girls from this season of The Bachelor, added: “We were all convinced that Lisa had won because the amount of times everyone had gone out with Sam and she was hitting on all these other dudes, because trust me, when you’re a bachelorette you get hit on by everybody ... they were convinced that she would never be with him because she’s been hooking up with everyone else.”

Palman wasn’t exactly full of praise for this season’s Bachelor either. She told the Hobart radio duo: “All the information I’ve heard is that he’s a real dog. Off-camera telling them all that ‘I love you, you’re the one, this is going to happen, you’re it.’ And there are opportunities when you’re filming the show for this to happen and full credit to Tim on our season, none of that went down.”

Various other media outlets, who undoubtedly had their interviews pulled as well, have been adding fuel to the fire, weighing in on the speculation on social media this morning.

Yesterday a spokesperson for Ten would neither confirm nor deny to news.com.au why the couple would not be conducting interviews and refused to comment on the speculation, hinting that it was a storm in a teacup.
Another rumour doing the rounds is that a devastated Sam called it quits with Blake last week, after seeing how intimate he was with the other ladies during the final few episodes of the show.
Then there's talk that Blake is now pursuing one of the other women, possibly Louise, after ending things with his bride-to-be.
