Update: 2 EF-0 tornadoes confirmed in Alexandria, Va. and Savage, Md. from Wednesday's storms - @washingtonpost

Two tornadoes were confirmed in the D.C. metro on Monday after a damage survey by the National Weather Service. These tornadoes were generated by storms that prompted tornado warnings in the Beltway and in eastern Howard County, Md. on Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sterling, Va., both of the tornadoes were rated EF-0 on the enhanced Fujita damage scale, with estimated winds of 55 to 65 mph.

The first tornado of the afternoon touched down near Belle Haven, Va., before continuing to travel north about 1.5 miles, leaving a sporadic damage path in the city of Alexandria. From the Weather Service:

THE TORNADO IS ESTIMATED TO HAVE TOUCHED DOWN AT 12:23 PM…WHERE THERE WAS A TREE DOWN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF HUNT ROAD AND BELLE HAVEN ROAD. THE TORNADO CONTINUED NORTH ACROSS THE BELLE HAVEN COUNTRY CLUB WHERE MORE LARGE TREE LIMBS WERE SNAPPED. THE TORNADO LIKELY LIFTED ACROSS INTERSTATE 495 WHERE IT CROSSES OVER THE GEORGE WASHINGTON PARKWAY…WHERE LARGE TREE BRANCHES WERE DOWNED. SEVERAL MORE LARGE TREE BRANCHES WERE SNAPPED IN THE ADJACENT NEIGHBORHOOD TO THE NORTH BEFORE THE RADAR COUPLET SIGNATURE WEAKENED AFTER 12:26 PM.

The second tornado, generated by the same line of thunderstorms, touched down near Savage, Md. The Weather Service writes:

THE TORNADO IS ESTIMATED TO HAVE TOUCHED DOWN AT 1:13 PM…APPROXIMATELY TWO HUNDRED YARDS SOUTH OF KNIGHTS BRIDGE ROAD IN SAVAGE. THE TORNADO THEN UPROOTED AND DOWNED A LARGE TREE THAT FELL ONTO THE SOUTH-FACING SIDE OF AN APARTMENT COMPLEX. OTHER LARGE BRANCHES WERE SNAPPED OFF NEARBY TREES ALONG THE HILL SIDE SOUTH OF STEBBING WAY. A NEARBY STREET SIGN WAS ALSO SNAPPED. THE RADAR COUPLET SIGNATURE WEAKENED AND DISSIPATED AFTER 1:14 PM PRIOR TO REACHING GORMAN ROAD.
